Moodle Session
History Of The Creed
The Creed has existed in different versions for a number of years. Long into their careers, sergeants remember reciting the NCO Creed during their induction into the NCO Corps. Nearly every NCO’s office or home has a copy hanging on a wall. Some have intricate etchings in metal on a wooden plaque, or printed in fine calligraphy. But a quick glance at any copy of the NCO Creed and you will see no author's name at the bottom. The origin of the NCO Creed is a story of its own.
In 1973, the Army (and the noncommissioned officer corps) was in turmoil. Of the post-Vietnam developments in American military policy, the most influential in shaping the Army was the advent of the Modern Volunteer Army. With the inception of the Noncommissioned Officer Candidate Course, many young sergeants were not the skilled trainers of the past and were only trained to perform a specific job; squad leaders in Vietnam. The noncommissioned officer system was under development and the army was rewriting its Field Manual 22-100, Leadership, to set a road map for leaders to follow.
Of those working on the challenges at hand, one of the only NCO-pure instructional departments at the U.S Army Infantry School (USAIS) at Fort Benning, Georgia, GA was the NCO Subcommittee of the Command and Leadership Committee in the Leadership Department. Besides training soldiers at the Noncommissioned Officers Academy, these NCOs also developed instructional material and worked as part of the team developing model leadership programs of instruction.
During one brainstorming session, SFC Earle Brigham recalls writing three letters on a plain white sheet of paper... N-C-O. From those three letters they began to build the NCO Creed. The idea behind developing a creed was to give noncommissioned officers a "yardstick by which to measure themselves."
When it was ultimately approved, the NCO Creed was printed on the inside cover of the special texts issued to students attending the NCO courses at Fort Benning, beginning in 1974. Though the NCO Creed was submitted higher for approval and distribution Army-wide, it was not formalized by an official army publication until 11 years later.
Though it has been rewritten in different ways, the NCO Creed still begins its paragraphs with those three letters: N-C-O. It continues to guide and reinforce the values of each new generation of noncommissioned officers.
The NCO'S Creed
No one is more professional than I. I am a Noncommissioned Officer, a leader of soldiers. As a Noncommissioned Officer, I realize that I am a member of a time honored corps, which is known as "The Backbone of the Army". I am proud of the Corps of Noncommissioned Officers and will at all times conduct myself so as to bring credit upon the Corps, the Military Service and my country regardless of the situation in which I find myself. I will not use my grade or position to attain pleasure, profit, or personal safety.
Competence is my watchword. My two basic responsibilities will always be uppermost in my mind -- accomplishment of my mission and the welfare of my soldiers. I will strive to remain tactically and technically proficient. I am aware of my role as a Noncommissioned Officer. I will fulfill my responsibilities inherent in that role. All soldiers are entitled to outstanding leadership; I will provide that leadership. I know my soldiers and I will always place their needs above my own. I will communicate consistently with my soldiers and never leave them uninformed. I will be fair and impartial when recommending both rewards and punishment.
Officers of my unit will have maximum time to accomplish their duties; they will not have to accomplish mine. I will earn their respect and confidence as well as that of my soldiers. I will be loyal to those with whom I serve; seniors, peers, and subordinates alike. I will exercise initiative by taking appropriate action in the absence of orders. I will not compromise my integrity, nor my moral courage. I will not forget, nor will I allow my comrades to forget that we are professionals, Noncommissioned Officers, leaders!
This is the creed that Dr. Rivera has been asking for. I hope that some of you read this and apply the values in your everday lives. It definitely is a way to treat people and the standards are common, everyday respect that should be given to others and maintained within. Thank you.

Wow, today was crazy. First I got a flat and then I had cramps, so I was really- like really late for class. So late that I didn't even get to stay, because I was in such pain. Tomorrow I have to get a doctors note so I am not counted absent.
Well right now I am trying to figure out which final exam assignment I should do because I have no idea which is even the easiest when all of them are hard! Its either so long or I don't even understand what the heck its talking about to do. :(
If someone knows which might be easiest or more understanding please let me know.. that would be very helpful.

So now I've got to get my stuff straight. Yeah, I know that I've been saying that practically all the time, but this time it is for real. I am going to try to be more prepared. There is actually only 4 more Moodles (counting today's Moodle session) and 4 more class meetings. So let's get it done!!
:)- Andrea
Anyways today moodle wasn't that bad. It was pretty interesting, because it was on classification, and I learned a thing or two from my job. Being a teacher's aide you can teach kindergartners the different classes objects fall under. I know; shocking huh? Well anyways, so I used what I learned from the book and put it as my examples.

So next class meeting I will present my quote and hopefully it can motivate you guys.

Tuesday!
It's been awhile since the last time I blogged, life for me is very busy and I barely have the time to take care of myself. On our Tuesday session, we had a presentation on how there are different resources that relate to literary elements that deal with english. I was also very fortunate to get my test back with a grade letter B, I was so happy because I really thought I was going to fail because I didn't prepare that well. I hope everyone is doing good, see you all in Thursday's class.

This week has gone by so fast for me. How did everyone like that day off because of Charter Day? I forgot we had a moodle that day but thankfully Dr. Rivera gave us til the end of the week to do it. Anyway, on Thursday I presented my quote so I hoped you guys liked it. Oh and I got my test back. I could have done better but I'm happy with what I got. How did everyone else do?
Have a good weeked
I hope everyone like my little power point presentation on my quote. I kind of went a bit overboard on the quote event still could of wrote a few sentences of what I thought of it. But I thought it was a very good quote and I had many things to say about it. So, let everyone enjoy the rest of the weekend and catch you guys next time we meet in class next week.
Later
Hope everyone a good time at charter day this past Tuesday and having no classes that day too. But I forget that we had a moodle session on that day too. I'm glad that Dr. Rivera gave us the end of the week to get it done and like to thank her for this chance to not to lose any points.
Well Thank God we did not have class today, because it is super HOT! I practically wanted to quit in life and go home, well metaphorically. The band that was playing was pretty good because i knew the people in the band. Also i hope everybody tried the rock climbing, because i did not :(.

Extended Assignments
As you know Dr.Rivera has been so kind to let our moodle session be extended till the end of the week. This gives us no excuse not to complete the assignment. Last moodle session I was unable to complete it due to my working situations, that gives me one absent so far for the semester. I hope everyone has kept up their assignments and is ready for the "Self Reflection," paper that is due on March 17, 2009. Let's all be good students and complete is nice and organized; on time. Hope to see everyone in class.

Well this week we learned about essay writing. It was fun reading about how an essay is made up and what the parts are in writing an essay. I think its so true though. I'm not really an essay person, but if its writing an essay that I am into I won't be able to stop writing. So in the end it was fun learning more about essays.

Celebrate Charter Day - EN100 Moodle Session Extended!
Dear EN100 Students,
Tuesday is set aside as a Moodle session, as indicated in the Calendar of Events. However, in celebration of Charter Day, I will extend the Moodle deadline to the end of the week. Thus, this will give you additional days to complete the assignment. Good luck, and enjoy Charter Day!
Best regards,

Well Thursday's moodle was about essays. Well I love writting an essay because it pretty easy once you understand the outline of one. Of course you need to have a topic sentence because without one, your essay won't know where it will be headed. It's like planning your time while you are in college, you need to know what you want to major in so you know what classes to take. The classes will be the supporting sentences to your topic sentence. And recieving your diploma is the conclusion because you finished did everything need into achiving your goals and know everything that you remembered from your class.
Well life for me has been stressful. I've been working while going to class in the afternoon then I have to do my physical activity to stay in shape. In all it's pretty hard to work out because I get so tired from everything, which is bad and unhealthy. So this week I am going to try and change it.

We had our first test yesterday. I thought the test was a bit difficult at some parts. I guess I didn't study as hard as i should have. Anyway how did everyone else do? I hope you all did well. I'll see you all next class meeting.
Test!
As you know there was a test today. I think it went well for "the first test" in EN100. It was pretty funny because I came in late because of traffic and was scared that i was going to get point deducted, but thankfully I came before Dr.Rivera. I was kind of shocked to see John and Greg there since they had to leave because of military reason. Anyways the test was pretty much what we learned in class from the book, and the extra credit was pretty intresting. I thought it was funny how Andrea's cell rang then Rowena's vibrated loudly. I love those funny moment, that is why this class is my favorite so far.

Starting over.
Through out life I've always tend to learn things the hard way. I am so stingy that I have to do it the way I want to or I wont do anything at all. So I guess I am struggling right now and well I am just trying to get back up and face the "world" myself. I am 19 years old and I don't really feel independent. Oh, I long for that feeling dont get me wrong. Now that I've got to get things straight and I want to start my life all over again but this time try harder and don't give up. :)
Oh, yeah.. don't forget to study for the first test we have on Tuesday! Good luck everyone, and God bless!
Today is moodle doodle day.
How is everyones day going so far. As for me I am still not feeling well today. I am glad that today is moodle session that way I wouldn't have to miss class today. Well today we talked about the different stages of the writing process and how it is resourceful. I think that the different stages are really resourceful in writing an essay. Well Just a reminder don't forget to study for the test on Tuesday. Good luck Everyone.
Thursday Moodle!
The writing process is very important when conducting an essay. Its a three step program that helps a writer organize and freely express his or hers ideas correctly on the paper. It's a process of freewriting, brainstorming, gathering, revising, and editing. By following this guideline, a writer's paper is neat and the information gathered is properly placed on the paper. This is important especially for college students who are learning the correct way to write a paragraph or an essay.

basic paragraph patterns I've learned today, Pattern A- has a topic sentence, support, support,
and Pattern B- has a topic sentence, support, and a concluding sentence. I enjoyed class today
with my fellow classmates.

Thinking that If I saved myself from being taken, that I would marry in heaven.
But who knows, I'm just so puzzled, about the after life, and when it's time to go.
Doesn't anyone wonder just like me?
Or am I the only one feeling like this? But then again, NO one will ever
feel JUST like me. Maybe a little, but never truly understand my feelings.

Hi everyone! Today I've learned that Text-Based writing can help improve the skills of writing an essay. By using the sources of annotating, underlining, outlining, and quotations in an essay. I hope that it will teach me to improve in my writing skills.

Hafa Adai everyone! I hpe everyone enjoyed their day in class by listening to a few freewriting stories. I enjoyed their stories ,especially learning about the Writing Process. I can't wait to hear everyones quotes. So enjoy your week and have fun. Bye for now.
Sunday, February 8, 2009
Hi everyone! Well I hope everyone enjoyed writing about their essay. As for myself it was like freewriting.I just thought about myself and started to write without stopping. All I can say , is that it was a little difficult to write about. I did my best. Bye! for now.
Hi everyone! I've learned that writing the controlling idea to support the topic sentence will better a good essay. So, it will make the readers enjoy reading an essay wiyhout getting bored.
Thursday, February 12, 2009
Hafa Adai everyone! Today in class I've learned that organizing support needs materials : listing all ideas, clustering. and outlining. I really enjoyed the exercises we did in class, about completing outlines. We all had different ideas.
Also, may god bless John and I will pray for him.

It's been awhile since we had class in the lab. I haven't blogged in awhile because I always seem to forget. So I'm going to try and remember to blog more often. Anyway, I had fun at class today. Oops!

Well I did a big no-no this past week, I accidentally posted a new discussion topic on our very own moodle room which I was not suppose to do; my bad. So, that's something that I need to work on, I know that I didn't do it the same last time but for some reason I guess I did it by accident; please forgive me! Today in class Dr.Rivera came late and I thought we would all be going home to our sweet beds, but she came and sure enough I found out I would be attending class on another work day.
2nd Blog of the Week..
I learned a lot in class today! Class was fun and I enjoyed it. Well see you guys on Tuesday, moodle session. I hope a lot of you learned a lot as well.
